December 2008, and
the first meeting was held in the La Mon House
Hotel, Comber , and the small group of supporters
where surprised and very pleased with the number
of people who attended the meeting. The Club
continues to grow, and most importantly they
are 100% supporters of Davy, and are commited
to ensuring Davy will have the resources, to
continue racing.
The Club has already run successful events in
2009 and 2010 to raise important funds to keep
Davy on track and are planning further events
in 2011, which we hope you will support.
Davy, in 2009 had an association with Action
Cancer, a major Cancer Charity in Northern Ireland,
in particular the "Breast Cancer Awareness
Campaign". He carried the "Pink Ribbon
Logo" on his Helmet, Leathers and his Race
bikes, to help promote the charity. He set himself
a challenge to raise at least £700, to
allow at least ten women to receive breast scans.
This was to be done with the support of the
"Davy Morgan #71 Road Racing Supporters
Club" through the sale of a pin badge featuring
Davy's famous Pink Helmet. The demand was way
beyond what anyone had anticipated and at the
end of the season they were able to present
a cheque for £5000 to "Action Cancer",
a further £2250 pounds to "Isle of
Man Breastcare" and 150 Euro to a Charity
in Southern Ireland.
For the 2010 season Davy, continued his association
with Action Cancer, but it was with their "Get
a Grip" campaign which supports
mens prostate cancer. The Badge for 2010 carrys
a blue riband and the "Get a Grip"
logo and will also sell at £3 each with
a contribution from each badge going to Action
Cancer.
It was not as successful as the first year,
but it was not expected to be as a number of
other riders used the same idea to raise money
for their chosen charity. We did however raise
more money for Action Cancer and this will be
presented at our Golf Day Dinner on the 25th
March 2011.
There are some of both these original badges
left, so we will be continuing to sell them
in 2011 at £3 each or £5 for the
pair with a contribution from each badge going
to Action Cancer. So if you see us, please buy
a badge or two if you have not got either.
