| It was Bush next and thanks
to the generosity of a few people Davy
was able to make his way down the M1 and
set up for County Tyrone event. The weather
on Friday was awful with heavy rain and
high winds resulting in all practice being
controlled for five laps and conditions
for it was a bit dodgy with mud from the
fields being washed on to the circuit
in places. Davy went out on the CMS Kawasaki
and when he returned the team had to take
a hose to it as it was filthy. So it was
a case of batten down the hatches (and
awning) and hope for better on race day. |

The paddock awakened to wet roads,
but as the morning progressed the circuit
began to dry, it was not dry enough as
the opening Supertwin Race started so
Davy decided to sit it out on the CMS
ER6 Kawasaki. The Supersport was to be
Davy’s next race and as the road
continued to dry he was ready to go, but
as the tyre warmers were being removed
from the CSC R6 Yamaha the rain came on
and that scuppered that plan. That is
the way it continued all day, drying up,
then raining, sometimes light, sometimes
heavy so there was no way Davy was going
to risk going out on the Strangford Holiday
Park GSXR1000 Suzuki, in fact a number
of riders chose not to ride their 1000cc
machines.
It looked like there was going to be
no racing for Davy at all, until later
in the day when an unexpected prolonged
spell without rain allowed the track to
dry sufficiently that he would try a run
on the D&GW/DM#71RRSC 250cc Honda
albeit on intermediate tyres. After two
warm laps he started well and took the
lead at the start of the second lap and
continued to lead until the rain came
with a lap and half to go forcing Davy
to slow up and allow Seamus Elliott to
go past on the final lap to take the win
with Davy second.
Davy speaking afterwards: “It
been a long and frustrating weekend, and
I apologise to all my sponsors, team members
and supporters that I did not get out
on track more. I so much wanted to ride
after missing last week, but I just do
not trust the surface here as it can be
very greasy when it is wet at all. Since
coming off here a few years ago in similar
conditions to today and badly hurting
my shoulder I am very wary of the place
and did not want to have another repair
bill and hurt body in 2012. I sat out
the opening Supertwin Race as the track
dried and it looked dry enough to have
a go in the Supersport Race, but just
as we left the awning the rain came on
to put an end to that. I did get out in
the 250 Race and was confident I could
have won it had the rain not come down
with just over a lap to go. Thanks to
those who helped cover the costs of this
weekend and to Paul Cranston for letting
us set-up in his yard. It’s a case
now of looking forward to Skerries and
hopefully some decent weather, to try
and lift everyone’s spirit.”
