Davy Morgan’s 2012 TT came to
an end late on Saturday night with another
finish and replica. With Fridays bad weather
the Lightweight and Senior TT’s
were postponed to Saturday, but again
the weather was not kind. First low cloud
on the mountain and then some rain showers
saw the start time put back and put back
until the organisers ran out of time and
cancelled the Senior TT and announced
that the Lightweight TT would start at
6:30pm, 8 ¼ hours after its scheduled
start.
With all the hanging around waiting,
damp roads in places and more adjustments
made to try and resolve the handling problems
on the CMS ER6 Kawasaki, Davy was to some
degree heading out in to the unknown.
After an opening lap at 106.442mph Davy
was down in 23rd place and as some stopped
for fuel Davy went straight through and
a quicker lap at 107.961mph his fastest
of the fortnight on lap two pulled him
up to 19th as he pitted for fuel ahead
of his final lap. A final lap at 105.6mph
including the stop resulted in a 21st
place finish, only 0.5 of a second from
making in another top twenty.
Overall a successful TT for a private
team considering the problems in 2011.
In 2012 Davy completed 36 laps (1,359
miles) throughout the fortnight compared
to 10 in 2011, in 2012 he finished four
races out of five compared to one from
six in 2011. His fastest lap at 124.534mph
was just outside his fastest ever lap
and he finished a very creditable 6th
Place in the TT Privateers Championship.
On his return home Davy commented;
“I am glad to be home, the latter
part of race week with the bad weather
and all the hanging around just did my
head in. If I am honest, despite a finish
and replica first time at the TT on a
Supertwin I was disappointed at my finishing
position, I know if we could have got
the handling sorted I would have been
further up as the bike has potential.
The handling was just way off and my chest
is bruised with trying to keep myself
up over the front to keep it in a straight
line. The Senior being cancelled was a
bit of a downer, but I think they got
it right as would not have been comfortable
riding on slicks with the condition of
the track. I am confident that in good
conditions I could have done a 126/127mph
on it sadly now I will never know as it
is now for sale due to the five year FIM
Rule at international events.”

| Davy continued; “My TT as a
whole? I suppose I have to be happy, I have
come home with four replica’s, but
as a rider you always think you could have
gone quicker and finished higher. I have
belief in my ability and I know I am capable
of lapping faster on all the bikes, but
we had wee niggly issues that prevented
it. At least I got laps this year and I
have to thank all my sponsors especially
Trevor (Matthewson) Strangford Holiday Park,
Steve (Caffyn) CSC Racing and Tony (Morris)
CMS Racing for their bikes and support throughout
the fortnight. Also all my other personal
and trade sponsors which include, Dunlop,
NGK, Rock Oil, Arai and Daytona who keep
me on track and of course my paddock and
pit crew for their hard work and commitment
to Davy Morgan Racing at TT 2012. Thanks
to you all and of course to everyone who
cheered me on, both on the island and back
home.” |
