| It was down to
Killalane for the final Irish Road Race
of the year and it turned out to be an
eventful weekend for everyone. Armed with
the Strangford Holiday Park/Leisure Service
Suzuki, CSC Branson R6 Yamaha and the
DM#71RRSC 250cc Honda, Davy was hopeful
of a good finish to the Irish Road Race
Season as the team set-up in bright sunshine
on Friday afternoon.
The rain had come in overnight and the
roads were definitely wet as the paddock
became busy on Saturday morning, but fortunately
the roads had dried by the start of practice
so it was all systems go. The first duty
of the day was to test out the new chicane
in Killalane village which proved difficult
with its location, but after a couple
of attempts the riders and officials were
hopeful they had got a set-up that worked
and above all was safe. First session
for Davy was the Supersport Class and
on the CSC Branson Yamaha he qualified
an impressive fourth although it was now
becoming clear that at full race speed
the chicane was making the section of
the circuit more dangerous than before.

There was one more practice
session before the Open Class Session
and all the talk in the holding area was
the chicane and the unanimous conclusion
amongst the riders was that it was too
dangerous and something needed to be done.
The riders came together and refused to
ride until a solution was found and after
long discussions with the organisers the
chicane was modified again and it was
declared that the remaining practice sessions
would be untimed. Davy did go out on the
Strangford Holiday Park/Leisure Service
Suzuki, but was not happy and felt that
it was really dangerous with a real possibility
of losing the front under braking and
hitting the telegraph poles on the inside
of the circuit. He completed the session
and would be seventh on the grid in accordance
with his championship position.
As the sessions were now untimed and
Davy would be starting second on the grid
for the 250cc Junior Race and so debated
about not going on the Honda, he decided
it needed a run as it had not been going
since the UGP off and it was a good job
he did as it started leaking water and
after investigation the seals at the water
shaft had were leaking. The faulty parts
were quickly replaced and he got out behind
the Junior Support guys to make sure everything
was okay.

At the end of Practice
it was announced that the Chicane would
be removed for racing on Sunday as it
was just too dangerous in its current
location and format, much to the relief
of all the riders.
Race Day greeted the riders with wet
roads, cloudy skies and a distinct lack
of heat in the air compared to Saturday
and it was not looking good at all. Davy
was out first race on the DM#71RRSC Honda
and it was declared a wet race so everyone
had to go out on wet or intermediate tyres,
but after the warm-up it was decided that
the race would be put back to allow the
riders to change tyres as the track was
pretty much dry all around. When it did
start Davy did not get off the line very
well and found himself; in sixth as they
headed for the first road ends, by the
end of the opening lap he was up to third
and closing on second. On lap three he
got in to second, but he out-braked himself
and had to round Kearneys Tree and found
himself back in fifth place as they headed
on to the final lap. He was not to be
deterred and at the chequered flag claimed
the final step of the podium in third.
The Open Championship Race was next and
on the Strangford Holiday Park/Leisure
Service Suzuki another poor start saw
him back in ninth at the end of the opening
lap, by half distance he had worked his
way up to seventh and going on to the
final lap he was sixth, but once again
out-braked himself at the first road ends
and by the time he got turned and back
on track he found himself back in an undeserved
tenth at the finish.

| On the CSC Branson R6
Yamaha in the Supersport Race he made
a really bad start and from fourth on
the grid found himself back in eleventh
early in the race. He was not giving up
and as the race progressed he got his
head down and picked of riders along the
way to eventually bring the Yamaha home
in a creditable if disappointing seventh.
The rain started to fall just before
the Grand Final and it looked like a tyre
lottery, but wisely the organisers delayed
the race to allow the rain to pass and
the roads dry. After a long, long delay
Davy made a reasonable start this time,
but was held up for a couple laps before
really getting going and bringing the
Strangford Holiday Park/Leisure Service
Suzuki home in sixth place to make it
four top ten finishes from four starts,
not a bad way to finish the Irish Season.
Speaking afterwards a satisfied Davy
said, "Not a bad end to the season,
the chicane situation was a real mess
and really dangerous, you came out of
the bomb hole and the bike was already
unsettled and then you were turning left
and trying to brake, a recipe for disaster
and a real risk of losing the front end
and ending up in one of the poles on the
inside of the circuit. I was glad the
organisers made the right, but difficult
decision to remove it, as i was thinking
that it would be safer to sit out the
racing on Sunday if it had remained. The
racing itself was a bit up and down as
i just could not get the bikes off the
line today and was trying too hard in
first couple of races and made a couple
of mistakes. I managed to get my head
together and had a good run in the Supersport
Race and Grand Final. I would like to
thank all my sponsors, team members and
supporters who have stuck by me and cheered
me on, Thankyou all for your invaluable
support and i hope we can continue in
2012. Although there is Scarborough and
the Sunflower still to go in 2011 as i
attempt to finish second in the tw-stroke
championship"
