It was back north next
for Davy Morgan Racing and the popular
Mid-Antrim 150 Road Races, not Davy's
favourite circuit but one that certainly
challenges the rider. After recent disappointments
and Kells wash-out, Davy was looking forward
to getting some solid results in all classes
around the clough circuit.
It was not to be the case as first of
all heavy rain on friday meant that the
roads were wet and all practice was untimed
and each rider only had to complete five
laps to qualify for Saturdays racing.
Davy completed his five laps early on
the Strangford Holiday Park Suzuki to
ensure the new engine was okay and then
headed home for a good nights sleep and
the hope of dry roads on Saturday.
Race Day and Davy would start from pole
position on both the Strangford Holiday
Park Suzuki and DM#71RCSC 250cc Honda
and on the second row on the CSC Branson
R6 Yamaha due to his current championship
positions. After a delay as the organisers
power hosed part of the course to try
and remove the mud, the first two races
ran dry. As the Open Race riders including
Davy came to the line however the heavens
opened and the start was delayed due to
the amount of running water on the track.
With tyres changed Davy made a reasonable
start, but the conditions were bad and
he nursed the GSXR1000 Suzuki home to
a disappointing seventh place finish.
When he came in the bike was filthy and
his visor was like a car windscreen after
you have got mud on it and used wiper
blades without water, visbility was awful. |
| The Junior 250cc Race
was the very next race and he gave it
another go in the slightly improved weather
conditions, but it was probably worse
track conditions with wet and dry all
round, add to that the fact that the 250cc
Honda was not running just right he had
to settle for his lowest finish of the
year in this class in fourth.
A disillusioned and frustrated Davy speaking
afterwards commented, "I'm sorry,
but that was not for me today if you went
of the single racing line the track was
really dirty and really slippy. The Suzuki
was a real handful and after the 250 race
i decided that unless the track was dry
i would not go out again. I apologise
to all my sponsors and supporters, but
i was just not comfortable with the track
conditions, hopefully we will now get
a dry couple of weeks and get back to
racing at Armoy and Dundrod." |
