It was a busy night for Davy Morgan Racing on the second night of timed practice
at the 2010 TT as Davy squeezed in the
maximum of four laps on the mountain circuit.
With a few adjustments to the CSC Branson
R6 and Strangford Holiday Park Suzuki,
some major ones to the CSC Branson R1
and a change to Dunlop Tryres for the
duration of the TT it was a careful Davy
that headed off next St.Ninians as overnight
rain had left the circuit damp in places.
It was the CSC Branson R6 Yamaha first
up this time and this lap was always going
to be difficult with damp patches at various
parts of the course. Despite the tricky
conditions and a lot of traffic Davy went
quicker than monday and at the end of
the session found himself 18th on the
night with a lap @ 116.512mph in 19 min
25.78 secs.
It was then in to the pits and a quick
swap over to the Strangford Holiday Park
Suzuki and a planned two laps. The first
was pretty uneventful with a steady run
to get dialled in and see if conditions
had improved any, which they had. It was
to be Davy's quickest lap of the week
to date at 119.484mph in 18 min 56.79
secs. The second lap was going well as
Davy upped his pace in the improving conditions
and all was looking good until a misjudgement
at May Hill saw him go in too quick and
he had to run straight on, which lost
him about 50 seconds in all. He rejoined
and completed the lap in 19 min 26.26
seconds @ 116.465mph, but it could have
been so much better in around 121/122mph.
Dissappointed, but happy that he knows
it was a quick lap.
The final lap of the evening (Davy's
Fourth) was on the CSC Branson R1 Superstock
Yamaha and the adjustments made after
Monday's practice did not work and the
handling was still not great and Davy
did not better his time and amazingly
did exactly the same time over the 37
3/4 mile circuit at 19 min 25.90 secs
at 116.501mph. So a busy night over and
some work to do.
A contented Davy commented, "Overall
it was a good night's work, I was out
on the CSC Branson R6 first and it is
brilliant to ride, although there was
a lot of traffic and the road was still
damp in places so you had to be very careful.
So the time i posted, i was happy enough
with as i am confident that in the right
conditions we can go a lot quicker. The
Strangford Holiday Park Suzuki is, i say
it again class !!! We decided to do two
laps so on a steady first lap we clocked
119mph then on the second lap when conditions
had improved i started to push harder
and then made the mess a May Hill, so
although the lap time was poor, i know
it would have been my fastest lap so far
by a long way. I am really positive that
we can push on from here, although we
will have to put padding on the back of
the seat to move me forward as we are
wheeling too much and i am having to pull
myself forward on the handlebars to get
some weight over the front end. The
Superstock R1 is a completely different
story from the other two bikes as it just
will not handle and it is scary in places
as the changes we have made did not work
so we will have to go back to the drawing
board with this one. All in all though
it was a good night with four laps and
i am happy with two of the three bikes.
I want to finish by saying a big "HI"
to everyone who is supporting me back
home and remind those who are on the island
that we have our pin-badges for sale at
our 01Race FX Truck in the paddock to
raise money for Action Cancer."
