Weather Conditions were changeable for the final days racing at the Manx Grand Prix with showers predicted. Davy was out on the Strangford Holiday Park/BLRC 250cc Honda in the Lightweight Race, the first time he has ridden a stroker on the mountain circuit in seven years and was looking for a finish after the events of Wednesday.

Davy was at number seven and would be setting off with Nigel Moore with pre-race favourite Dan Sayle at number one. It was a solid start which saw Davy in second place at Glen Helen, third at Ramsey and back in second at the end of the opening thirty seven miles, but only 3.8 seconds separated the first four. By Glen Helen on the second lap Davy was down to fourth, but only three seconds behind the leader who was now Moore. By Ramsey Moore had retired and with a sharp shower of rain Davy backed off a bit and found himself third, eight seconds of the race leader who was again Sayle.

By the end of the lap Sayle and starting partner Neil Kent were locked together at the front and pushing each other along, whereas Davy determined to get a finish backed off as he had lost his partner Moore as the gearing was not quite right on the little Honda. By the end of the lap he was twenty eight seconds adrift of the leaders. As the race progressed the front two were now well clear and Davy settled for a safe third as he was nearly one minute ahead of the man in fourth. At the flag he took the final podium nursing the bike home sixty three seconds behind winner Sayle. A good end to a long, wet and frustrating fortnight on the Island.

Speaking later Davy commented, “It was a good run, I was really pleased to get a finish, but I was hoping for the top step. Nigel and I were pulling each other along and when he went missing I struggled to keep the pace as my gearing was not quite right. On the final lap and a half the wee bike was going off so I decided to make sure I finished and when they stripped it afterwards one of the cylinders looked about ready to go. I want to thank everyone who helped me this past two and a bit weeks, too many to mention, but especially Steve (Caffyn) who puts a lot of work into the classic bikes, I am just disappointed I could not bring it home on Wednesday. I will now relax have a couple of pints, take Trudy out for a nice meal and look forward to getting home on Sunday”.
