Weather Conditions were pretty
much perfect for Davy’s first race
of the week, the Senior Classic on the
CSC Branson 500cc Honda. After the disappointment
of not getting out on Tuesday for the
Junior Classic, the team were hoping for
a good run and more importantly a finish.
Setting off at number seven Davy didn’t
have to wait long to head off down Glencutchery
Road. With a first lap at 96mph he found
himself in eighth place as he headed on
to lap two. By this stage Chris McGahan
had caught him on the road and Davy was
able to go with him and managed to lap
at over 98mph to pull himself up to sixth
at the end of the second lap.
On the third lap he was having a great
scrap on the road with McGahan when the
500cc Honda sheared fourth gear and left
him a real problem. He still managed to
lap at over 97mph, but with fourth gear
very important on a classic around the
mountain course, Davy had no choice, but
to retire at the end of the third lap
still in a solid sixth place. A disappointing
end to a positive race.
On a more positive note for the team,
Maria Costello who was riding the teams
CSC Branson 600cc Yamaha in the earlier
Junior MGP managed to get within a second
of her fastest ever lap time on a mountain
circuit (set on a 1000cc machine) at 114.073mph
and finish seventeenth and claim a well
deserved Manx replica. Well done Maria.

Speaking
later Davy commented, “I would
be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed,
but I was enjoying that today out there
today until the bike broke. Conditions
were perfect and I had a great dice on
the road with Chris (McGahan) his bike
was a lot quicker than mine, but I had
him on the twisty bits it was good fun.
When I lost fourth gear on lap three I
knew it was the end as you ride a lot
of the corners round here in fourth on
the classic and to do it in third or fifth
would have been near impossible. I was
in sixth at the time and with a couple
more dropping out on the final lap I could
have had a fourth or even third, but racing
is full of ifs and buts. I am now looking
forward to Friday and hopefully a good
run on the 250 in the lightweight race
and then home. It’s a fortnight
tomorrow since I left home and Trudy is
over tomorrow so I am looking forward
to that and a day off. ”. |
