2009 MGP: Bad Luck Continues at Start of Manx (24 Aug 09)

The Manx Grand Prix was next on the schedule for Davy Morgan Racing and Davy was hoping that his bad luck would be left back in Ireland as he headed to the Isle of Man. Davy is to contest three races, with rides on the CSC 350cc & 500cc Honda’s in the Junior & Senior Classic Races and with a welcome change of rules a chance to ride his own 250cc Honda in the Lightweight MGP on the mountain course.

In the opening untimed session on Saturday evening it was a loose ignition on the CSC 350cc Honda that forced a first lap retirement and with no way back that was the session over.

Monday night and again the weather was good, although a bit cold. John Burrows was to ride the CSC 350cc Honda as his machine was not ready and it blew up leaving the team with a lot of work. It did not get much better for Davy himself as on the mountain on his opening lap of the session the BLRC/Strangford Holiday Park 250cc Honda seized in the cooling conditions. So it was another session spent spectating.

On Monday night a subdued Davy commented “It has not been a good start to the Manx as the gremlins have followed me to the island. I can’t believe that after two practice’s I have not got a complete lap in. The 250 seemed to be going well tonight, but it was cold on the mountain and I felt it tighten up so I stopped before it stopped itself. The one thing I will say is that it was different place to watch. We have a lot of work ahead of us tomorrow when we will see how much damage has actually been done, surely our luck is due to change, hopefully soon”.
