| Conditions
were good again for the final race day
of the 2009 Southern 100 and all being
well Davy would have four outings. The
CSC Branson R6 Yamaha was first on circuit
today and at the end of lap one Davy was
back in eleventh, but as in previous races
he got his head down and at the flag had
moved himself up to eighth despite a lack
of top end.
Next up was the 250cc Race and on the
Strangford Holiday Park/BLRC Honda Davy
was looking for another good result. Things
did not go to plan from the start and
a burnt clutch off the line made life
very difficult for the Saintfield man,
but what he lost on lack of clutch he
made up for on riding ability and managed
to bering it home in sixth after loosing
out to Nigel Moore on the final circuit. |
The CSC 400 Yamaha was
on the third row of the grid for the combined
125/400 Race. It was a cracking start,
the best of the week as Davy was up to
third place as the pack headed to Ballykeigan,
but that was as good as it got when he
went for third gear and found it wasn’t
there and that was the end of the race
and Davy toured in to the paddock.
The Solo Championship Race was the final
outing for Davy’s Southern 100 campaign
and again he was well down early on in
the race as he wrestled the CSC Branson
R1 round the Billown circuit. He was not
to beaten however and again fought his
way through to finish in creditable ninth
place and make it a treble of top ten
finishes on the day and more importantly
plenty of time on the bikes and a much
needed confidence boost. |

A tired and
content Davy commented later, “I
am disappointed with the 250 as it did
not feel as quick today and with the clutch
problem it was really difficult. I enjoyed
the 600 ride, but I hate to keep saying
it, but we really do need more power at
the back wheel. On the 400 I got a flying
start and everything looked good, but
then no gear and the field just streamed
past me and that was that. The R1 I was
happy with ninth place, but if I could
get it to handle I think I could take
3 to 4 seconds of my lap times. I would
like to thank Jim for coming over and
giving me a hand this week, it was a big
help. All in all a reasonable week and
more importantly a few pounds in prize
money to keep us going and now its off
to Kells tomorrow, just hope my boat is
on time.”.
