Walderstown 2009 (13 July 09)

Davy was looking to build on his solid performances at a rain interrupted Skerries as the team headed south again to the Walderstown Road Races in Athlone. It was Davy’s first visit to the in a few years so he was looking forward to re-acquainting himself with the two-mile circuit. It was however to be one of those weekend’s that you want to forget, when an accident during practice claimed the life of Andrew Neill.

On Saturday Davy had qualified fifteenth on the CSC Branson R1 despite handling problems and fifth on the Strangford Holiday Park/BLRC 250cc Honda which was under geared, before the rain came and brought proceedings to a premature halt and meant that some of the practice would be run on Sunday.

Race day never got going as the weather and then the tragic incident during the 125cc practice resulted in the meeting being abandoned.

Speaking afterwards, “Racing takes a back seat after weekends like this; all our thoughts are with Andrew’s wife Sharon, his family circle and friends. On behalf of Trudy, myself and everyone involved with Davy Morgan Racing I offer our deepest condolences at this awful time”.
