| After giving Walderstown
a miss to re-charge the batteries and
give the bikes (especially the 250) a
much needed overhaul, Kells was next on
the calendar and Davy was looking to build
on the confidence boost he received by
his results at the Southern 100.
Saturday Practice
With confidence on the up Davy just went
out and enjoyed his practice runs, the
Ballygowan 250 Honda was first on track
and after a couple of laps to settle in,
he managed to set the third fastest time
and a front row start for Sunday’s
race. It was the Investasure Honda next
in the Open Class and Davy posted an impressive
fifth fastest time and a second row start
this time. His final session was on the
CSC Branson R6 Yamaha and despite riding
hard and enjoying himself, it was only
a good enough time for ninth place on
the starting grid.

Sunday Race
Davy was looking forward to the races
on Sunday and with pretty good starting
positions, he was looking to get the starts
right and get more confidence building
results. First up was the Open Championship
Race and after it was halted and restarted
for an incident Davy found himself in
a battle with Derek Shiels for sixth place,
but lost out on the final lap and had
to settle for seventh at the flag. The
Supersport Championship Race was next
on track and a terrific ride for Davy
against superior machinery saw him move
up from his qualifying position to claim
another seventh place finish.
The 250cc Race was Davy’s best
hope of a podium and he did not disappoint
and after a race long duel with Michael
Dunlop, he had to settle for second place
when the chequered flag came out. The
600cc Non-Championship Race was next and
Davy produced another excellent performance
on the CSC Branson R6 Yamaha and just
missed out on another podium finish when
he pipped to the line by Adrian McFarland
and had to settle for fourth. In the final
race of the day, the Grand Final, it was
another seventh place finish to round
off an excellent weekend.
Speaking later a delighted Davy commented,
“What a brilliant weekend, after
the Southern my confidence was definitely
on the up and I carried it on through
this weekend. My results were by far my
best this year and proved to myself and
hopefully others that I am not past it
just yet. Everything seemed to just fall
in to place and if we can get a few more
horses out of the 600 I could be even
higher up the order in that class, although
it is a great wee bike to ride. At last
we got the blade misfire sorted and wee
were right on the pace all weekend, which
showed in both my practice times and race
results”. Roll on Faugheen.
