It was a trip down
to Skerries next up for the first race
of the year south of the border. Davy
and his team was hoping there would be
a change of luck at races in Ireland after
a very frustrating start to the year.
As usual all of Irelands top road racers
were in attendance and practice was uneventful
and relatively disappointing with fifth
on the Ballgowan Supporters Club 250cc
Honda, eleventh on the CSC Branson R6
Yamaha and thirteenth on the Investasure
Honda Fireblade.
Race day and it was the Open Championship
race first up and it did not last long
as the misfire that had persisted all
season returned to the Investasure Fireblade
and for safety reasons Davy retired at
the end of lap two and there was no way
it could be fixed before the Grand Final
so it was parked for the day.
The 250cc Race was next and a solid start
saw Davy on the tail of the front runners
on the opening lap, but his machine was
not as competitive as the others and as
the race progressed he lost time lap by
lap and found himself in a lonely fifth
spot, where he finished.
The 600cc Supersport Race would be Davy’s
final outing of the day and it was to
be an eventful run with a five way scrap
for seventh throughout with only 1.7 seconds
between seventh and eleventh at the flag.
On the road Davy was battling with Weldon,
Walsh and Sweeney with McFarland from
Group B involved in the scrap on corrected
time. Davy Set the fastest lap of the
five, but at the flag he had to settle
for tenth place after a mistake coming
out of the hairpin on the final lap, an
enjoyable run, with a disappointing finish.
Speaking later Davy said, “Not
my best day at Skerries, but at least
we got some racing miles this weekend.
The 600 was really good fun, but I made
a mistake out the hairpin and lost the
drive and dropped to tenth, we got a steady
run on the 250, but the misfire appeared
again on the Fireblade and we can not
get to the bottom of it at all, its very
frustrating. At least I got racing this
week”. |
