| Thursday –
Practice
Things did not get much better during
the second nights practice as the team
struggled to get the bikes set-up for
the fast sections of the nine mile triangle.
First this time was the Superbike and
despite managing six laps and taking 1
minute 43 seconds of Tuesdays time the
bike was still a nightmare to ride with
both front and rear handling issues needing
to be sorted. The fastest time was an
unacceptable 58th quickest, an absolute
disaster in Davy’s eyes and way
down on where he is capable of being.
The following Supersport session was even
worse if that was possible as only one
lap was completed when a mechanical failure
brought the session to a premature end.
With no qualifying time, the organisers
slotted Davy in at the back of the ‘A
Group’.
The final 250cc Session was abandoned
before the opening lap was completed when
a serious accident involving Robert Dunlop
and Darren Burns on the approach to Mathers
Cross brought it to an abrupt halt. This
meant that the grid positions would be
taken from the times on Tuesday.
Later that night Robert sadly died from
the injuries he received, everyone involved
with Davy Morgan Racing would like to
pass-on their sympathy and condolences
at this sad time to his family and friends.
Saturday – Race
As race day arrived Davy was hoping that
all his bad luck was behind him and he
would get some decent results despite
his poor qualifying. The 250cc was first
to the holding area and after a slow start
he managed to work his way through and
finish in sixth place only one tenth of
a second from fifth, not a bad start to
the day.
However that was to be the only success
and finish of the day, in the opening
Superbike Race the gear linkage on the
CSC Branson Fireblade broke on the sighting
lap so he didn’t even get started.
On the opening lap of the first Supersport
race the R6 blew up and not only was that
us out of the first race, but it was terminal
and so didn’t even get to the line
for the second. Then to top an awful day
in the second Superbike Race another mechanical
failure resulted in another retirement
on lap three.
Speaking later a dejected Davy commented,
“What a Disaster, what more
can I say we could not get the R6 and
Fireblade as we wanted them at all. Its
so frustrating for everyone and me especially
as I know I can do a lot better. I want
to thank everyone for their hard work
and support over this past week, I am
just sorry I could not repay it with a
decent showing, I just hope I don’t
take this luck to the Isle of Man”.
“Its been a tough week in a
whole lot of ways none more so than the
events of Thursday. I would just like
to pass on my condolences to William &
Michael (Dunlop) and the rest of their
family after the death of Robert on Thursday
night. Also, I wish Darren (Burns) a speedy
and full recovery.”
