2008 Tandragee: Tragic Events shortens Tandragee

It was Tandragee next for Davy Morgan Racing and one of Davy’s favourite national meetings. The 5.3 mile circuit set in the County Armagh countryside has everything to challenge rider and machine. Davy would again be riding his own Ballygowan RRSC backed 250cc Honda along with a new 2008 CSC Branson R6 (just arrived) and it would be the Investasure Honda Fireblade in the Open Class as parts had still not arrived for the CSC Branson 08 Honda Fireblade.

Practice was pretty uneventful with steady runs on all three bikes resulting in a solid if not spectacular set of times. He was thirteenth on both the R6 and Fireblade machines and seventh on the 250. It is not where he wants to be, but importantly he got more track time.

Race Day for tragic reasons was to be abandoned, when Martin Finnegan lost his life in an accident during the Supersport 600cc Race. In the earlier Open Championship Race Davy had retired at the end of the sighting lap with machine failure and so it was a day to forget.

Speaking later Davy said, “Another day to forget for our sport, Martin (Finnegan) was an entertainer who did things on a motorbike that no-one else could and he will be sadly missed. I would like to pass on to his wife, daughter, family and friends our sympathy and condolences at this awful time”.
