After missing the
Skerries, Walderstown and the Southern
100 meetings due to his shoulder injury
received in his fall at Bush, Davy was
back in the saddle for the popular Kells
Road Races. Still a bit sore it was a
case of getting out in practice and see
how the shoulder felt on the bike.
It was with apprehension that Davy headed
out to practice holding area on the Autotech
Rider & Driver Training 600cc Honda,
as he did not really know how the shoulder
would feel or hold up on the big jumps
at Kells. The amount of pressure put on
your shoulders is considerable so it was
always going to be difficult and that
is how it turned out. Davy did not qualify
for either the 1010cc or 600cc Championship
races so would be going in the non-qualifiers
races. The 250cc practice was slightly
better and at least he would be going
in the championship race.
Race day came and it was dry as Davy
headed out for his first race on the Autotech
Rider & Driver Training 600cc Honda.
It ended in a solid second place after
a race long scrap with Adrian McFarland,
which Davy found tough on his shoulder
and dropped back on the closing laps,
but still managed to keep Andrew Courtney
and Andrew Neill behind him. On his own
250cc Machine he had an uneventful steady
ride to a lonely eighth place. By the
time the Open 1010cc Race came around
Davy was sore and after the sighting lap
decided to call it a day. Not his best
day, but at least the road to full recovery
was started.
Afterwards a stiff Davy commented, “It
was hard sitting out Skerries and the
Southern as I enjoy both, so it was just
good to get back out there. I am no where
near fit enough, I was just not able to
move the bikes around as I need to be
competitive. The results were not important,
it was just a matter of getting some miles
on the bike”.
