After a couple
of weeks break after the TT it was a return
to the Irish National Road Race scene,
at the Bush Road Races. During the period
between the TT and bush work had been
done on the Investasure Honda Fireblade,
to rectify the misfire problem that plagued
the Superbike Races at the TT, along with
it, loaded in the lorry was the Autotech
600 Honda and the Ballygowan & District
backed 250 Honda.
Friday evening saw the practice for the
2007 Bush Road Races, and it didn't get
off to a good start when the gremlins
reappeared in the Investasure Honda that
had been evident during race week at the
TT. Nevertheless, 7th quickest in the
session was a good performance, but Davy
would have liked to been further up the
grid. Better was to come in the 250 session,
when Davy took pole almost 3 seconds ahead
of his nearest rival. The Autotech 600
Honda never got to take to the circuit
on Friday evening after a delayed start
to practicing and the poor light, so it
was decided to run that session on Saturday
morning.
After practice some mid-night oil was
burned working on trying to find the problem
with the 'big lady', with the quick shifter
disconnected it was time for some kip.
Saturday morning and in the 600cc practice
session which Davy took out the Autotech
600 Honda in the first group and qualified
in the first group. During the second
group of 600 qualifying Davy was given
permission to take out the 1000 Honda
for a couple of laps, but with the short
time on the bike it appeared that there
were still some problems.
First race of the day for Davy was the
250cc race, and with dark clouds looming
overhead the race got underway. As Davy
slotted into second behind Darren Burns
the rain start, and as they headed onto
the second lap the rain got heavier. It
was on the second laps that the conditions
caught Davy out causing him to loose control
of the wee bike crashing out. Unfortunately
with the fall, Davy dislocated his shoulder
and broke a bone.
Speaking afterwards Davy commented;
"I am a bit sore at the moment, after
dislocating my shoulder and breaking a
bone in the shoulder area. I will be seeing
the doctor this Wednesday after the shoulder
has settled down a bit. Until then, we
are unsure as to when I will return to
the saddle, but I would like to aim for
Sherries in a couple of weeks, but that
might be a bit optimistic, we'll just
wait and see what the doc says."
