| It was the annual
pilgrimage to the east coast on England
for the Steve Henshaw Gold Cup Races at
Scarborough, a meeting Davy enjoys on the
Olivers Mount Circuit that is tight and
twisty, but with little margin for error. |
Practice was disappointing
as the Investasure Fireblade would not
handle as Davy would have liked and the
Autotech Kawasaki was down on pace. After
practice, first up was the Heats for the
600 & Superbike machines and it was
fourth place in Heat 1 of the 600cc Supersport
and around ninth place overall on the
grid for the main races. The Superbike
heat was a different proposition and on
a badly handling Honda Davy struggled
to get any decent laps and only managed
eleventh place, which was not good enough
to qualify for the main Superbike races.
The 600cc Supersport 1st Leg was Davy’s
only other race on the Saturday and he
was running in twelfth place when he had
to retire with two laps remaining, a disappointing
end to a mixed day.
Sunday and it was mid afternoon before
Davy’s first race of the day, the
2nd Leg of the Supersport and after a
slow start he managed to move himself
up to finish thirteenth, just ahead of
Mark Parrett. Next was the Steve Henshaw
Gold Cup Race and he managed to take over
six seconds off his practice time on the
Investasure Fireblade to come home in
a respectable tenth place. Finally due
to his problems during qualifying and
the heats Davy was starting the Superbike
B Final and romped home by almost twenty
seconds over six laps to claim the win.
A nice way to end the weekend.
Speaking later, “It has been
a nice weekend away; it’s just a
pity that i could not have been a bit
more competitive. We could not get to
the bottom of the handling problem with
the blade, although it was better by the
end of the weekend and on the 600 we were
just not in the hunt from the off. On
a positive note it’s more miles,
a race win and the injuries are pretty
much sorted”.
