The
team packed up and headed to County Tipperary,
for the Faugheen Road Races, where Davy
picked up the best newcomer award last
year. With the Investasure Racing Fireblade
and Autotech 600 Kawasaki in the van Davy
was looking to get back on track after
a disappointing July to date, but July
was to end as it had started.
Looking forward to a good practice session,
around the 2.2mile Faugheen circuit Davy
headed out practicing on both 600 and
1000 machines. Unfortunately during the
1000 session as Davy tipped into the hairpin,
lost the front end and slid off at low
speed. This is not what he needed after
being off in recent road race meetings,
but with no injury he returned to the
paddock and was able to qualify on both
bikes for Sunday’s racing.
With the events of Saturday a distant
memory, Davy was looking for some good
results on both bikes and to forget the
month of July. First up was the Open race,
and with suspension problems from yesterday
a few change where made before heading
to the grid. Over the five lap race, Davy
was only a couple of second back from
the 2nd and 3rd place battle, but with
an ill handing bike Davy fought of the
challenge of William Dunlop to get a solid
fourth place on the Investasure Racing
Fireblade.
Next up for Davy was the 600 Championship
race, but as with the big bike Davy’s
practice was hampered with suspension
problems, and after a few overnight changes
struggled during the racing, finishing
a disappointing 11th.

Before the two remaining races of the
day Davy and the team made some changes
to both bikes in an attempt to improve
the handling over the Faugheen bumps,
but unfortunately with Davy’s confidence
low and the problems with handling he
retired from both the 600cc Non-Championship
race and Grand Final. This ended what
has been a month to forget for the Saintfield
Lorry Driver.
Speaking after the meeting Davy commented;
“What a month, this has to be
one of my worst runs in my racing career,
and one I definitely want to forget.”
He continued, “After my offs at
Skerries, Walderstown and yesterday at
Faugheen my confidence is really low.
During racing today I did try hard, but
with not having the right suspension settings
on both the blade and 600, it was hard
to build up any confidence. That’s
racing; we will put July behind us and
look forward to August with the Mid-Antrim
and then the Ulster. We will use the Mid-Antrim
next week to build up my confidence on
the bikes and come Ulster Grand Prix,
I’ll hopefully be on top on my racing
again.” |
