Back
to the Isle of Man for the Southern 100
at Billown was next on the calendar, a
meeting Davy enjoyed as best newcomer
on his debut last year, but a circuit
that you have to treat with the utmost
respect. It’s a four day meeting
made up of practice and racing throughout
and Davy was like a kid with a new toy
as he was to get the first run on his
newly purchased Investasure Honda Fireblade.
Monday and it was practice all night
with two sessions on each bike, the weather
was cool but dry and Davy was hoping to
get in plenty of laps on all three of
his machines. Things don’t always
go to plan and he only got one lap done
first time out on the Investasure Fireblade
when a blown engine for Connor Cummins
R1 saw Davy covered in oil and had to
retire, in the second session it was ninth
quickest and a lap at 103.626, satisfying
first time out. In the 250 Sessions on
the Ballygowan RRSC Honda it was sixth
quickest in the first with a lap at 93.932mph
and in the second it was an improvement
to fifth quickest and a lap at 95.224mph.

On the Autotech Kawasaki the 600 Supersport
sessions were very different affairs with
a good run to eighth place at 100.099
mph in the first session and when Ian
Lougher’s bike blew up in the second
session leaving all sorts of fluids on
the circuit, Davy’s best lap was
a lowly 91.911mph.
Tuesday and disaster struck warming up
for the 250 Session, when the Honda through
a leg out and destroyed the engine putting
paid to riding it at the Southern and
possibly the season as it will cost mega
bucks to rebuild. This took the edge of
Davy’s performances and disappointing
fifteenth place times in both Open and
600 classes the result and slower than
his times set on Monday Night. In the
Corlett Graphics Senior Solo Founders
Race Davy only got three laps completed
before retiring.
Wednesday was wiped out due to the weather,
which as far as Davy was concerned was
the correct decision.
Thursday was the main race day, but with
only two outings for Davy due to the demise
of his 250. In the S&S Motors 600
Race it was a fifteenth place finish with
a fastest lap at 101.743mph, which considering
Davy’s Autotech Kawasaki is in standard
trim was a reasonably good performance.
The final race of the week was the prestigious
Protous Solo Championship and it saw Davy
get his best result of the week a pleasing
and spirit lifting ninth place on the
Investasure Fireblade and unofficially
the fastest rider through the speed trap.
It also saw Davy set his fastest ever
lap around the Billown circuit with a
lap at 107.084mph, which he has done at
quite a few circuits in 2006. |

A philosophical
Davy stated, “It just gets worse,
this must be the worse run of luck I have
ever had racing. I got the new Superbike
just before the meeting and was really
looking forward to getting out on it,
but what happened to the 250 took the
gloss off everything else. It is great
to be back with Kevin & Angela (Wood)
and once again displaying the Investasure
logo on the roads in Ireland and the Isle
of Man. They were very understanding when
I signed for DMRR and I would like to
thank him for providing me with this bike,
which should be competitive.” |
