After giving Athea
a miss to recover from his TT exertions
and to get other things sorted after his
split from DMRR, Davy Morgan made his
way down the M1 for the inaugural Bush
Road Races. Armed with his Ballygowan
RRSC 250 Honda and the Autotech 600 Kawasaki
owned by John McKeown Davy was looking
forward to an enjoyable, hassle free weekend.

Everyone got three laps
behind instructor’s as everyone
was a newcomer before timed practice started,
which was used to get a first ride on
the Kawasaki. Davy’s first timed
session was on the 250 Honda and after
getting away half way down the field a
combination of the bumps and tight twists
and turns he was caught up in a lot of
traffic and never really got a clear run
and had to settle for the sixth fastest
time. The Supersport was next and a fifth
place qualifying time was about the best
that could be expected first time out
in anger on the Autotech Kawasaki.
The Open session was a bit of a disaster
as clutch problems delayed Davy getting
out on to the circuit, so he only got
three laps done in a lot of traffic and
the thirteenth fastest time a full six
seconds slower that his Supersport time,
which would have put him fifth on Superbike
Grid.
Saturday morning and there was some rain
about, which was going to make the circuit
very difficult to ride, fortunately it
dried up before race time and Davy set
about what he does best.
The Cohannon Inn & Auto Lodge Senior
Race was first up and after a slow start
Davy began to work his way quickly through
the field and from the B group got himself
in to fifth place at the chequered flag
on corrected time. The Two Stroke Supporters
Club/Eurocoach 250 Race was the very next
race on the programme and another slow
start put paid to any chance of victory
as Darran Lindsay had disappeared at the
front before Davy got past Barry Davidson
and then John Burrows to finish a creditable
second and a lap time a massive thirteen
seconds quicker than qualifying.
The Northland MCC Supersport Race and
Davy had a race long duel with long time
adversary Victor Gilmore for fourth place,
it looked like fourth until the final
corner when Davy got caught by slower
runners and Victor got the run down the
hill and nipped through to claim the spot
and Davy had to settle for another fifth
place and his fastest lap of the weekend
of 2:24.350 at 82.494mph, which is a very
respectable time on a standard 600 machine.
The final race was the Donnelly Group
Bush Open Race and it was a hat-trick
of fifth places completed as Davy again
came through from the B Group to finish
in the upper reaches of the leader board,
not a bad days work on a new bike.
Davy commented, “It was hard
work out there, but I really enjoyed the
day. I can not afford to give Darran (Lindsay)
that kind of start in the 250 Class if
I am to get anywhere near him and I would
like to thank John McKeown for the opportunity
to ride his Autotech Kawasaki, I hope
he was pleased with my efforts. A good
Superbike would be nice for Skerries next
weekend though.” |
