Tandragee is one
of Davy Morgan’s favourite national
circuits and he was really looking forward
to his runs on the DMRR Fireblade and
Ballygowan RRSC 250 and was hoping that
after the frustrations at Cookstown that
he and the team could get the DMRR 600
on the pace. He was to further prove his
talents between the hedges with four top
six finishes including another victory
and only just missing out on the man of
the meeting award to the very impressive
Cameron Donald.
The weather was glorious for Friday Practice
and it was Junior/Open session first and
on the Superbike, which is so much quicker
than anything Davy had ridden around Tandragee
before he struggled on the first few laps
before setting a lap of 3:18.007 and seventh
quickest. In the Supersport 600 session
it was hard work as the bike was down
on top speed and the handling was still
not as Davy would like it, however the
Saintfield man kept at it and got it qualified
in a creditable tenth place despite the
problems. |
| The 250cc Junior session
was pretty straight forward, just one
big moment as Davy qualified in second
place less than a second behind Holland.
In the final session it was back on the
Fireblade and Davy took nine seconds of
his previous best time, but still remained
in seventh overall.
Saturday Race Day was once again going
to be a lottery with the weather as the
forecast was not favourable as the day
went on. The first race was not a problem
as in perfect conditions the Tayto Junior
Open Race saw Davy take a brilliant fourth
place on aggregate behind Donald, Finnegan
and Porter when the first part was red
flagged after five laps so it was then
a two-part race. Davy also set his fastest
lap of 3:07.159 @ 102.787mph, just five
seconds outside the course outright lap
record and another two seconds of his
qualifying time.
The Trevor Warde Groupage Services Supersport
Race was not even a lap old when the red
flags came out for a three-bike crash,
fortunately with no serious injuries.
By the time the restart got underway the
rain was on and the circuit was most definitely
wet and conditions very tricky. Some riders
pulled off the grid, but Davy once again
showed his talent by riding a bike that
he is less than happy with in less than
perfect conditions to a sixth place finish.
The rain had stopped, but the circuit
was still wet in places as the riders
for the Street Sweep 250cc Race took up
their grid postions. Davy battled throughout
the race distance with Burrows and Courtney
with all three leading at some stage during
proceedings. In the end Davy took the
victory by only 0.052 of a second from
Burrows after he nailed it first and got
the drive up the hill from Bells Crossroads
to see the chequered flag first with Courtney
third only 0.7 of second back.
Conditions were pretty much perfect for
the feature Dalzell’s Tandragee
100 Race as Davy lined up again seventh
on the grid on the DMRR Fireblade and
after a race long battle with Burrows,
Davy passed him on the final lap to claim
another excellent top six finish in fifth
spot and took another four seconds of
his lap times and set his fastest ever
Tandragee lap at 3:04.279, 104.393mph
following on from his fastest ever Cookstown
lap last weekend.
Davy after an excellent days work had
this to say, “I love riding
the DMRR Fireblade, it’s quicker
than anything I have ridden before and
its handling is already good and getting
better everytime I ride it as we make
some small adjustments, Bill (Simpson)
really knows his stuff and is easy to
work with. What can I say about the 250
it is brilliant and as you know I love
riding it and its another enjoyable hard
fought win from John (Burrows).”
