| Davy
with partner Trudy, Stuart and No.1 fan
Harry, made the long eight-hour trip to
the south east of Ireland to make his
first appearance at the Faugheen Road
Races. With the 750cc limit at Faugheen
there were only two bikes packed in the
van, the Investasure/John Bell R6 and
the Ballygowan & District RR Supporters
Club 250cc Honda.
Practice was used to learn the circuit
and Davy took to the circuit quickly and
qualified well on both machines and was
looking forward to some good results on
Race Day. It was the 250 Junior Race first
and a second place finish behind Ryan
guaranteed the retention of the lead in
the Street Sweep 2 Stroke Racing Supporters
Club Championship, but Darren Burns passed
Richard Britton on the final lap, which
meant a share in the July Mini Series
between Davy and Darren with a 1st, 2nd,
3rd & 4th place finish each.

The R6 Yamaha was next on the grid
for the 600cc Supersport Races and in
both the Championship and Non-Championship
races Davy finished second to the man
on fire at the moment, Ryan Farquhar on
his MSS Discovery Kawasaki. The now customary
post Championship Race farce started and
Davy was again excluded from the race
result despite proving that his bike was
Regal Spec. Davy appealed the decision,
but it was rejected and it has left the
Saintfield man with a dilemma when it
comes to riding in the 600cc Races in
the Southern Centre run races.
The Grand Final saw that man Farquhar
disappear off at the front again, with
Davy having a terrific battle for second
with Cameron Donald and John Burrows.
Despite all his efforts our man had to
settle for fourth as he could not compete
with the straight line speed of the tuned
600cc machine of Donald and the 750cc
Suzuki of Burrows. Fourth place was okay
and added to the other results was enough
to give Davy another Best Newcomer Award.

Despite a successful weekend
an angry Davy commented, “We
arrived really late on Friday night and
even though it was dark we took a run
around the circuit in the van and I thought
to myself I will never get the hang of
this, there seemed to be bales lining
the circuit everywhere. Trudy told me
not to be silly and that I would love
the place, as always she was right I absolutely
loved the circuit there were fast flowing
corners and it was not like the previous
circuits were you just gun it corner to
corner than slam on the brakes.”
“The racing was superb and
i had some brilliant results with only
Ryan (Farquhar) beating me in three of
my four outings. The exclusion and appeal
thing with my Regal Spec 600cc Yamaha
got a bit nasty though and spoiled a bit,
what was a very enjoyable weekend. The
way it was handled and the fact I was
given my appeal money back, I think says
it all. A few people within the Southern
Centre need to look at their attitude
towards us, so much so that I think we
will be giving the Dundalk Road Race a
miss. They are now telling me that I do
not have a 600cc machine that I can ride
in the Southern Centre. I don’t
want to go in to the details, but the
Dyno man even offered to write a letter
stating that my bike was standard and
within the rules. It’s a case of
what do I do now as everyone knows there
were tuned bikes out there yet I am the
one excluded and my bike is Regal Spec.” |
