Davy Morgan came
away with six top ten finishes out of
seven starts on his first visit to the
Southern 100 Road Races on the Billown
Circuit in the Isle of Man, which was
enough for him to claim the title of Best
Newcomer.
With his main sponsors Touchwood Consulting
and Investasure Financial Services based
on the small Island in the middle of the
Irish Sea the County Down Lorry Driver
was determined to repay their faith in
him with a good showing, which he most
definitely did.
It was a big decision for Davy to go
to the Billown Circuit as he felt the
circuit with so many walled lined sections,
was a bit too dangerous for a mass start
scenario. Davy eventually decided to give
it a go and found that as he learned his
way around that he enjoyed the circuit
with its many fast flowing bends.
His first race was on Tuesday evening
on the Touchwood Consulting Kawasaki in
the Senior Solo Founders Race and a very
satisfying eighth was the result and the
first newcomer home, this was followed
up by a sixth place in the Junior Solo
Founders on the Ballygowan RRSC Honda
and again the best newcomer. Wednesday
night and two more races, it was ninth
place this time on the ZX10 in the Senior
Race, where he also set his fastest lap
of the week in 2:25.033 and then another
sixth place on the 250 Honda in both cases
the first newcomer to cross the finish
line.
Thursday and the finale to the weeks
racing and it brought more success for
the team with ninth place in the 50th
Anniversary 600cc Race on the Investasure
Yamaha, followed up with the third sixth
place finish of the week on the Ballygowan
SC 250cc Honda, once again the first newcomer
home in both classes. The only disappointment
of the week came in the Feature Solo Championship
Race when he was holding a solid tenth
place before a mistake dropped him to
fifteenth and the only finish outside
the top ten for the week.

Speaking after his debut
Davy said, “I am glad I made
the decision to go, it was a fantastic
week in a whole lot of ways. The Southern
Club were brilliant in their organisation
of the meeting and they treated me and
every other rider very well, which some
other clubs could learn from. I enjoyed
the circuit once I got to know my way
around although it is a lot quicker than
I had anticipated and with a quicker 250
I think I could have got higher finishes.
To get some good results with the Touchwood
Consulting Kawasaki was very pleasing
as it proves we are going in the right
direction and are getting more competitive
every time we take it out. The Best Newcomer
Award with seven finishes from seven starts
was a welcome bonus for both my sponsors
and myself. All being well I will definitely
be back.” |
